Dr. Royden "Roy"
Fitzgerald was born in Syracuse
and lived in Camillus for a
number of years. He was a
graduate of Christian Brothers
Academy, Syracuse University and
Fairleigh Dickinson. For
32 years he was a self-employed
dentist in Syracuse and he was
also a dentist for the Syracuse
Crunch as well as an Army
veteran.
Roy was the Head
Coach of the West Genesee Hockey
team from 1986 through 1994.
In his eight years behind the
Wildcat bench, he amassed a
record of 85-76-5. In
1990, he coached the West Genny
to the New York State
Championship with a 1-0 triple
overtime victory over Albany
Academy. Prior to coaching
at West Genesee, Roy coached for
six years at Bishop Ludden High
School where he spent two
seasons as an assistant coach
and four seasons as the head.
Unfortunately,
Roy Fitzgerald died February 4,
2004 and will be missed by all
of New York State high school
hockey, especially Section III.

Hall of Fame, March
2002, for his
dedication to the
sport as a truly
great coach who has
contributed
noteworthy service
to New York State
