Frank Panek
attended Bishop Ryan High School
in Buffalo and the University at
Buffalo.
Did not play
hockey at the high school or
collegiate level, but played
senior hockey after college.
Frank was a self taught coach
who attended seminars and hockey
clinics all over North America
and Canada. He was a coordinator
for the western New York region
of the USA Hockey Coaches
Development Program for 19
years, a youth hockey
coach and coached many players
who went on to Div. I and Div.
III collegiate hockey, a part of
the Empire State Games hockey
program for 12 years and was an
assistant coach and head coach
of two gold medal teams.
Frank started
coaching high school hockey in
1987, coaching Bishop Timon/St.
Jude for 17 years where he
compiled a 235-166-24 record.
He coached many student athletes
who went on to play at the Div.
III level and coached Tim
Kennedy who presently is a
member of the Div I national
collegiate champion Michigan
State school and a draft choice
of the Buffalo Sabres.
Frank was one of
the founders of the Western New
York Varsity Hockey Federation
consisting of 8 high schools and
was its first President for 14
years and helped set the course
of high school hockey in western
New York. He was involved in
drafting the by-laws and rules
of play for the federation and
was a part of the expansion to
the present of 16 high schools
with two more schools joining
the federation for the 2008-09
season.
He is presently
is the hockey moderator for
Bishop Timon/St. Jude High
School and is involved with all
the administrative tasks and
scheduling for the varsity and
JV teams.
